If you’re reading this, chances are you or a member of your family is a member of your local Neighbourhood Watch WhatsApp or Facebook group. Although these community-led groups play a significant role in keeping their suburbs safe and informed, there are some areas that fall short.
Neighbourhood Watch groups are important and should be present in all communities. Most obviously, the purpose of these groups is to prevent crime. By working with security companies and the local police, Neighbourhood Watch groups are able to better understand common crimes, warning signs, suspicious activities that warrant reporting, and the best ways to take action. This sense of camaraderie ultimately brings the community together, creating a tight-knit sense of vigilance and safety. However, although the intentions of these groups are positive and authentic, the information they gather can be exclusive and inaccessible to the broader community. This includes visiting friends, family and tourists.
Spottem is here to bridge that gap and lend a helping hand. The app was built for South Africans to report crimes in their area. This information is then available to the entire Spottem community, no matter your location. Neighbourhood Watch groups are encouraged to download Spottem and report their findings on the app, effectively empowering communities outside of their suburb with essential information.
Together, Spottem and Neighbourhood Watch groups will be an unstoppable force, creating a safer South Africa for all.
Spottem is totally free and available for download for both Android and iOS devices.
